Shake up your life: how to change your own perspective

Updated: Nov 25, 2019

Certain foods are particularly rich in healthful components like omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, and antioxidants, which are known to support brain health and often referred to as foods. Incorporating many of these foods into a healthy diet on a regular basis can improve the health of your brain, which could translate into better mental function.

Just as there is no magic pill to prevent cognitive decline, no single almighty brain food can ensure a sharp brain as you age. Nutritionists emphasize that the most important strategy is to follow a healthy dietary pattern that includes a lot of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. Try to get protein from plant sources and fish and choose healthy fats, such as olive oil or canola, rather than saturated fats.

School Work Examples

These are a couple examples of my work that can be incorporated for examples of food and culture not only from where I am from (New Mexico) but for other places around the world.

Food Haiku
I love green chile
My favorite is the stew
Now Im craving it

Where I am From
I am from the land of enchantment
from red and green to hot and mild
a trip that will make your tastebudds crazy and wild

I am from the dirt on a softball field
that stick in my teeth like the kernels of a popcorn seed

I'm from barbells and dumbells
that savor my bodily needs
like cookie dough ice cream

I'm from La Dodger and Dallas Cowboy favorite teams
to eating heatlhy chicken, rice broccoli and green beans
I'm from meal prepping and dieting to drinking nothing but alkaline

I am from working and chasing the great bill of greens
like the leaves of a beautiful summers eve
I'm from working toward the career of red and blue
so I can kick it back on the off days like boiling stew

I'm from the family get togethers and weekend barbeques
like the jalopeno poopers on a chicabob skew
I'm from the lifes of enchantment from art, history, and food
encompass this story in all its glory

Introduction
In the mix of doing this assignment I have noticed that this finl project is a sense of direction for helping us determine how we are going to articulate what we know and what we have learned with what we hope to learn and critque. The design of food culture and the way that it represents a persons background helps me utilize the key points in this project allowing the audience to easily follow my reading assignments. Durinig the development of this project you will be able to understand a specified book for what it is and how the concept of its factors tie into ethnography as a whole and why it pertains to food culture in the United States. My book is covering the mental stabilities of a mind and how all your senses conflict with certain elements you are introduced to on a daily basis.

Background
Given that my book is called remapping of the brain, that is exactly what it is going to cover it is going to allow the general basis of your mind and the way it is structured to find meaning for why certain senses have to do with your everday enviornmental or personal factors. Annie Hopper shares her story about how her brain undergoes a chemically indused tragedy to in which enables her to loose a lot of her senses forcing her to exclude herself from everything she has been used to. Initially, the story is able to provide us with the usefulness and the obstacles she had to overcome to diagnois her own symptoms because the doctors couldn't come up with what was happening, so this allows me to see that many of her ethnographies are put on hold or conflicted due to the lack of help from a professional standbase.

Conclusion
With this being such a famiiar topic to me I am able to tie in a lot of what I already know as well as what I am personally aware of so thay I can better understand the topic as it is given to me. The more that I become familiar with all the techniques and all the research the more I will be able to give a clear understanding of this book that way things can be accurately put in order. This project has allowed me to use my creativity and my expertise to be familiar with learning more about food culture and how it is important to any type of background that we endeavor. Therefore, I will be able to understand the meaning as I know it in a technical and professional setting which allows me to guide more of my research toward my career and my interpersonal understanding of events.

All these different types of assignments that I was able to participate in showed me all the right characteristics and necessary actions needed to obtaining to specific tasks. The more I was able to explore way beyond what I am used to, and getting out of my comfort zone the more I was able to see the basic need for accessible resources and why they are always important to look after and care for. The ability to have a concise schedule and a general understanding for what everything is and why everything has their own structural meanings helped me understand the assignmentst more because of the details that I was allowed to obtain. I liked having the ability to take care of everything at my own pace and at my own discretion because it allowed me to see how everything worked with my skills and how everything was obtained to my knowledge and why everything was so easy to understand during the process of it all.

I was able to achieve the learning outcomes for this course as exemplified through percise and careful examination, as well as through specific and intellectual understanding. The more I had more hands on abilities with this course the more I was able to then understand all the readings and movies that we were told to watch because I was able to tie in my personal experiences with my technical ones through the way of this course. I really liked the formation of everything and the disbursement of gardens with the different reads and formations of bringing all of those different types of rhetoric and enviornmental resources together to form one basic form of understanding. The tehcnicality and the creative writing structure helped me better navigate my understandings of english as a whole and why even the smallest bit of information is important in understanding the many forms of educational significance.

Food for Thought

Ted Talk

"Have you ever had a gut feeling or butterflies in your stomach? Has hunger ever changed your mood? Our bellies and brains are physically and biochemically connected in a number of ways, meaning the state of our intestines can alter the way our brains work and behave, giving a whole new meaning to 'Food for thought'. As a nutritionist, microbiologist and neuroscientist, Ruairi Robertson is passionate about the link between our bellies and brains. His research is examining how our intestines and the microbes within them can influence both physical and mental health, and most importantly how our diets influence this relationship. Ruairi has travelled the world researching food, and believes it is the key to global public health. Ruairi is a PhD student in University College Cork in Ireland and current Fulbright Scholar (2015/16) to Harvard University.

The cultural importance of Food

Ted Talk

Every time we gather around a table to eat we perform one of the most important social activities that we do as human beings. Eating is not only about nourishing our bodies, but our souls. Every bite is a bite of culture, of history, and knowledge that has passed from generations to us. For several reasons we have forgotten how important food is and all the symbolism that surrounds it.  Rocio del Aguila earned her PhD in Hispanic Literature from the University of Texas at Austin and her BA from Universidad Catolica in Lima, Peru. Her research focuses on gender studies and postcoloniality. She has taught courses about Spanish language, Latin-American literature and culture, and social justice in Peru, Ecuador, Canada, and the United States. She started working at Wichita State University in 2014 and serves currently as graduate coordinator of the Spanish Masters Program. Rocio is married and has a baby boy. While researching she found etiquette and recipe books that caught her attention. She has published scholarly articles on food representation in literature in Nineteenth Century Latin America and made presentations in national and international conferences on these and more contemporary topics, such as indigenous cooking technologies, authenticity in cookbooks, and the Asian diaspora through menus in Latin America.

Food importance links

The Mayordomo is entrusted with the responsibility of allocating water within his or her respected acequia according to local custom.  These customs are on-the-ground articulation of the importance of food.  Depending on the acequia, a common practice is to prioritize the family gardens that are used for subsistence and to provide drinking water for livestock.

All plants use sunlight to make food (sugars) in a process called photosynthesis. They store the food in their leaves and the energy flows to other animals that eat the leaves. When leaves fall, decomposers in the soil, work on it, with the help of moisture and heat from the sun.
